Have you ever asked God for a loud and clear confirmation for your career? Our foreign correspondent Alex shares an amazing story which comes all the way from Europe.
How do you hear from God? For the longest time I was so frustrated because I always heard people around me “getting downloads” while I was apparently deaf.
Everything changed about a year ago. I was really seeking God’s direction and guidance, I was faced with several big decisions, one of which being a big career move – leaving LA and transferring to Europe. This made me uneasy and I was absolutely starving for God’s direction. I went back to what I knew and that was the Truth from the Bible. Jesus says,
“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened for you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks the door will be opened” (Luke 11:9-10).
Would you drop everything and move halfway across the world if God told you to? Our Voice Janice shares a very personal vLog of taking a leap of faith and following the Lord to Hong Kong.
It’s inspiring to see someone follow the dreams and convictions on her heart and to just go with faith that God will provide everything she needs. And it serves as a challenge for all of us: when was your last God adventure? What do you need to give up for Him to give you what you’ve always wanted?
Janice will be updating us from time to time from Hong Kong, but in the meantime, let’s pray for her that “the journey and the destination will be just as amazing.”
Do you ever miss home? Our Editor Dan shares a touching story about the tenderness of the Father’s Heart for those who are living far away from family and friends.
Last Friday my wife Rachel was feeling especially homesick. Being from Malaysia and coming to a whole new world and life out here in LA, she sometimes needs a little taste of home to keep her going. So we decided to have a late dinner at The Spice Table in Little Tokyo, one of our favorite restaurants and one of the only places in LA where you can find truly authentic Malaysian / Singaporean flavors.
We’re regulars there, and we almost always order the same thing, but this time for some reason we decided to try something different and ordered the Kaya Toast - which is a buttered toast with coconut jam that you dip in a mixture of soft poached egg, soy sauce and white pepper.
It had been a hard day and a long week for Rachel.
In the spirit of Valentine’s, at WitnessLA.org we’re featuring the stories and testimonies on what God has shown Christians about singleness, relationships, and love all the days leading up to Feb. 14th. Today, our Editor Dan shares how God is faithful in keeping His promise to make marriage a blessed union.
Marriage isn’t easy. It’s no wonder that when we look around at our peers in our late 20’s and even mid 30’s, it’s rare to find people who are actually married. I wasn’t a young buck by the time I tied the knot - one month from my 30th birthday, and yet, when people find out that I’m married, it’s shocking and almost scandalous to most people that I would do the deed “at such a young age.” Some people are in such disbelief when they’re around Rachel and I that they keep referring to me as her boyfriend, even after being corrected many times.
Now that could just be my youthful charm and good looks (*wink*), but more likely it’s a symptom of how we view marriage nowadays and the fact that to most people, marriage just isn’t worth the work.
On several occasions, WitnessLA has had the privilege to be able to post some of Tony Lee’s miraculous street evangelism experiences. This time, the testimony comes not from others, but from him. Many thanks to our friends at Korean American Christian Media (KAC) for recording and sharing this inspiring story.
Tony Lee was a rebellious kid until a life-changing encounter with the Holy Spirit made him realize that God was real and that God loved him. Since then, Tony has been passionately sharing the love of God with others, often going to the streets, restaurants, and malls to pray for people. Testimonies of healing and salvation have resulted from his street evangelism. Hear his fascinating testimony!
God is moving in Hollywood, even in the most unlikely of places.
At a recent charity event hosted by Oprah, the presence of the Lord suddenly fell upon Gospel singers from both old and new generations, as spontaneous songs of worship broke out, and the power of the Holy Spirit brought tears and conviction to many African American celebrities from Alicia Keys to Tyler Perry to Janet Jackson alike.
Alicia Keys - “You can’t imagine sitting there in this spectacular environment and feeling the Spirit of God and celebrating the blessing.”
Diane Sawyer - “For the rest of my life I think that may be the most transcendantly spiritual moment I’ve ever been a part of.”
There is no one more romantic than God. A few months ago, our Editor Dan wanted to propose to his girlfriend Rachel (the founder of WitnessHK). He didn’t know how he would do it, but he prayed that the Creator of all romance would give him ideas. God did even better - He made it perfect.
In March, Rachel visited Dan in LA for the second time. God had just blessed Dan with a new job, so he had a week off before the new job was going to start.
As far as Rachel knew, the plan was just to drive up to San Francisco from LA to meet Dan’s family.
Does your church need a wake up call? Our friend Stephen shares an inspiring story of God bringing the Holy Spirit back to a church that was just going through the motions.
I have been attending a church for the past 5 Sundays and it’s the kind of place where it’s hard to feel the presence of the Holy Spirit at all. They come sing their hymns, listen to the sermon and say their goodbyes and church is over. The members are mostly in their 50s, 60s, and 70s. The reason I’ve been going is because a Korean church rents this place and the Korean church is also pretty much Holy Spirit-less.
One day, the Father told me to keep attending and there will be a chance to pray for people from both services and they will get healed and this will be the sparkplug to invite the Holy Spirit to come…[click “Read More” below to continue]
God remembers those we have forgotten. Will you follow when He calls you to love the unlovable? Our friend Arielle came all the way from Singapore to be a missionary here in downtown LA’s Skid Row and shares an amazing testimony of healing and love in a place we so often ignore.
I was a volunteer with a church group that hits Skid Row regularly. We feed them, befriend them, pray with them & simply make ourselves available for God to touch them.
On a typical morning on 27th May 2011, when we were walking around telling people about free food, my friends spotted a lady (let’s call her T) limping along the streets. T was knocked down by a car a month ago & broke her right knee. Her surgery was in fact due the next day but was still open to us praying for her…[click “Read More” below to continue]
