Our friend’s father was diagnosed with cancer during a work trip from Los Angeles to Seoul, South Korea. The unexpected news forced the family to cling onto God tighter than they did before as fear and uncertainty about surgery, chemotherapy, logistics, and finance draped over them. Our friend is in a small group in Los Angeles who has been praying for his situation and by the amazing grace of God, the WitnessLA family was given an update on how God has answered their prayers during this difficult time.
Prayer for responsiveness to surgery and chemo, and for the best possible medical care. Prayer update:There were concerns that the surgery and chemotherapy would not be effective in battling the cancer given its late discovery. However, my dad’s surgery went extremely well in removing the cancer tumors. His recovery has been great and his chemo sessions are moving along without a hitch. He just received another full diagnosis and the chemo drugs that he’s been receiving seem to be really effective. He hasn’t had bad side effects from is, aside from the usual throwing up and not being able to eat for few days. Although he has lost a lot of weight, 25lbs to date, from this treatment, it’s been a blessing since he was a little heavy. It’s hard for him for maybe one or two days after the treatment but he’s otherwise been his normal self. So all in all, everything is going fantastic.
Have you ever experienced a length of time during which you prayed countlessly for God to answer this one specific prayer or dilemma that you’re facing, and all you get was silence? One of our editors went through that exact situation, and got her answer from God today.
A couple of months ago, my fiancé’s stereo system in his car was damaged. One of his CDs was stuck in the system, and it could not be ejected. This led me to a hunt for the ultimate car stereo with the latest functionalities, from built-in Bluetooth for hands free calling to an auxiliary input for his iPod and a touchscreen. During this search, I realized that the people who install these systems earn a substantial amount in labor charges, sometimes even more than the cost of the system itself. Not only that, having a built-in Bluetooth as one of my requirements raised the price even more.
Can God move Time for us? Read our sister’s story on how God intervened at her work place.
I can’t tell you how amazed I am with God’s goodness. He has blessed me in so many ways and I hope that my story will encourage you in whatever stage you may be in.
Sometimes, I think prayer is pointless. All of us feel this at times, right? BUT, let me tell you this-God is the God of impossible. I was coming close to a huge deadline for work. I wasn’t stressing out, but I was a little concerned at the back of my head about meeting the deadline by Tuesday.
Where did the time go? I was working like a chicken with its head cut off. I walked in to the office this morning and I couldn’t believe that today was Tuesday – I had so much work in front of me. Silently, in my own head, I lifted up a prayer.
“God, You are the God of the impossible. If anyone can push my deadline, it would be You. I don’t know how You’re going to do it, but I know that I’m in Your favor”.
Today I had to go to the County Recorder’s Office in East LA to pick up a copy of my marriage license, and when I got there the line was atrocious - person after person queued up and fanning themselves in the late summer heat. I was frustrated by the wait, and my patience was really being tested because I’ve become an impatient person when it comes to wasting time.
After more than an hour in the long winding line inching forward ever so slowly (and a dozen or so checks to Facebook Mobile), I finally made it up to the service window. After all the wait, my heart sank. The teller at the window told me my Certificate would be mailed and they couldn’t give me a copy in person unless it had already been entered by the County Recorder. She had to check for me.
At that moment, I prayed in full faith “Lord Jesus, I really need this certificate today so we can file our applications by our deadline. Would you somehow make it ready for me? I know you can do anything.” Despite my prayer, I was still prepared for the worst.
The teller looked up at me with a smile. “You’re really lucky, you know? It says here it’s JUST been entered, so I can give you your certificate today. It normally takes six weeks, but yours was somehow entered in only two. You’re really lucky.”
“Yes, I guess I am really lucky,” I said. Walking back to my car, I couldn’t help but smile.
Pray at all times, pray for the impossible, and watch God move Heaven and Earth out of love for you. Just believe! “All things are possible for one who believes.” Mark 9:23 (ESV)
Here is a powerful story of how our writer, Ed, learned an equation that most find difficult to accept: Failure + Faith x Perseverance = Success. Sometimes we are so fixated on doing what is “right” or what we believe is pleasing to God that we overlook the greater purpose: Bringing Him joy. Then, when we wonder why our good deeds aren’t acknowledged, God reminds us that it isn’t about us. The fruits of our goodness will stir change, but we must have faith, patience and perseverance.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-5 NIV)
A lot of times we see and hear about amazing testimonies of God. What we rarely hear about is the journey that got them there. One day I was on the subway praying and asking the Lord for an opportunity to see somebody healed. I’d watched a lot of testimonies from Bethel Church and wanted to see it firsthand. After I finished praying the subway reached my station. The doors opened up and low and behold, a girl in a wheelchair with a cast on her leg was sitting outside.
Are you bold in what you pray for? Recently, I’ve become absolutely convinced that God will move Heavens and Earth out of love for us if we just ask. That He can - and will - do anything to show you His love, even change the weather.
Now before you strike me as some kind of radical or crazy person, Jesus himself said “With man this impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26 (NIV)
I just got married on September 18th. It was a Sunday. For three or four days before the wedding, I woke up each day to dark grey overcast skies. I checked the weather each day, hopeful there would somehow be sun for the biggest day of our lives…[click “Read More” below to continue]
Never underestimate the power of prayer. Prayers are heard by God no matter where you are and in any form, whether by mouth or through Facebook.
We have here a short but awesome video from our Voice, Tony, the street evangelist. In this video, a friend of Tony shares her story of being instantly healed from sickness by simply praying a prayer that was written for her on her Facebook Wall.
Does your church need a wake up call? Our friend Stephen shares an inspiring story of God bringing the Holy Spirit back to a church that was just going through the motions.
I have been attending a church for the past 5 Sundays and it’s the kind of place where it’s hard to feel the presence of the Holy Spirit at all. They come sing their hymns, listen to the sermon and say their goodbyes and church is over. The members are mostly in their 50s, 60s, and 70s. The reason I’ve been going is because a Korean church rents this place and the Korean church is also pretty much Holy Spirit-less.
One day, the Father told me to keep attending and there will be a chance to pray for people from both services and they will get healed and this will be the sparkplug to invite the Holy Spirit to come…[click “Read More” below to continue]
God remembers those we have forgotten. Will you follow when He calls you to love the unlovable? Our friend Arielle came all the way from Singapore to be a missionary here in downtown LA’s Skid Row and shares an amazing testimony of healing and love in a place we so often ignore.
I was a volunteer with a church group that hits Skid Row regularly. We feed them, befriend them, pray with them & simply make ourselves available for God to touch them.
On a typical morning on 27th May 2011, when we were walking around telling people about free food, my friends spotted a lady (let’s call her T) limping along the streets. T was knocked down by a car a month ago & broke her right knee. Her surgery was in fact due the next day but was still open to us praying for her…[click “Read More” below to continue]
