He Knows Best

He Knows Best- this is a story about how God revealed the true meaning of His Mission on a mission trip to a place where no one speaks of Him.

Have you ever heard of that saying,

“If you want to make God laugh, you tell him your plans”?

Well, this summer I had the opportunity to go on a mission trip to Asia to share God’s love with some amazing people. For security reasons, I cannot disclose the name of the country, but basically, our ministry worked in a restaurant with a bunch of people who were either new believers or had absolutely no idea who Christ was. This restaurant partnered up with a non-profit organization and their entire ministry is about reaching out to all their workers. I know what you’re thinking, how is that intentional right? I was thinking the exact same thing and the exact words going through mind was: What did I sign up for?

It was definitely tense the first few weeks being there. I had no idea how I was going to execute sharing the gospel, especially because evangelizing was illegal and communication was a problem because I hardly spoke the language. There I was, working in a restaurant with strangers and I had absolutely no idea what to expect, but God knew exactly why He brought me there and what He wanted to reveal to me.

Eventually, as the days flew by, God taught me how to minister to these people by building relationships with them serving and helping them around the restaurant whether it was wiping a table clean, washing the dishes, or listening to their stories of how they came to work at the restaurant. God really opened up my eyes and taught me that a mission trip does not always require for me to necessarily help the poor or care for orphans. Mission trips are about loving people and making sure His name gets glorified. He knew exactly what His mission for me was. Praise God that my team and I were able to fulfill that mission!

As I mentioned before, evangelizing is illegal here, but the Holy Spirit intervened and I was actually able to share the gospel with some of the workers. Not only did God show up and gave me the opportunity to share the gospel with some of the workers, but they asked me  how
is it possible to hear God’s voice. I shared with them that God’s voice is not something physical. When one hears God’s voice it is not clear at first, but with many prayers, discernment and a whole lot of listening, God will reveal Himself to them. I shared that God speaks through people and situations and that he is speaking every day to us, only if we would listen.

At the end of my trip, one of the workers came up to me in excitement. I looked at her in surprise and asked ,

“What is it”?

The worker told me that she was starting to attend Bible studies with a local pastor. I was speechless. I was so amazed that God was able to open up her heart and that she was willing to embark on this new journey.

I truly believe that God has a plan for all of us. He is our creator and He would not put us in situations which we cannot handle. In the end, we just really need to put our whole faith in Him because after all, He knows what’s best for us.

Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all ways acknowledge him and he shall direct your paths” Proverbs 3:5-6
