Let there be light!

Our Voice Alex brings to light a very relevant subject about God’s role in science, especially in today’s society of modern science. This conflict (and occasional concord) is known to go way back to the days when the Catholic Church and the first few scientists were contesting tradition vs. progress. Working in the field as a scientist, Alex presents his own experience and explains that what he does actually reconciles with what he believes in - God.
I have always liked science. Big fan. It’s actually one of my passions and I pursued it by completing a technical degree and choosing it as the starting point of my career. Throughout the whole process, I never once felt that at any point in my science-based education, my studies would clash with my complete confidence in God’s existence, perfection and Grace.

I do, however, find it surprising that there is a common misconception out there that science and the existence of God are mutually exclusive. There’s also that danger of “the more you read, the more you reason, the more you understand, and the less of a chance that you would believe in God.”
I find that to be a huge fallacy, and in fact, the exact opposite effect happened to me. Speaking through experience, I believe that as we learn more about the world that surrounds us, be it via classical education - Physics, Math or learning about each other through Sociology, Psychology, or even doing business around the globe, the certainty that God exists does not diminish, but it actually increases. It certainly has been true for me. But don’t take my word for it. Here are 3 guys who are a lot smarter than me - Nobel Prize smarter. This is what they have to say:
“I want to know how God created this world. I am not interested in this or that phenomenon, in the spectrum of this or that element. I want to know His thoughts, the rest are details.” — ALBERT EINSTEIN, Nobel Laureate in Physics (Father of Modern Physics).
“The more I work with the powers of Nature, the more I feel God’s benevolence to man; the closer I am to the great truth that everything is dependent on the Eternal Creator and Sustainer the more I feel that the so-called ‘science’ I am occupied with is nothing but an expression of the Supreme Will, which aims at bringing people closer to each other in order to help them better understand and improve themselves.” — GUGLIELMO MARCONI, Nobel Laureate in Physics (inventor of the Radio, Telegraph and Father of Wireless Communications).
“The first gulp from the glass of natural sciences will turn you into an atheist, but at the bottom of the glass God is waiting for you” — WERNER HEISENBERG, Nobel Laureate in Physics (Creator of quantum theory and Father of nuclear physics).
So my challenge to myself and to anyone reading it is this: be hungry for knowledge, go beyond the first gulp you get from reading a science related headline. Go deeper and I propose to you that it will actually make you a believer in God if you weren’t one already, and a stronger believer if you already are. And in the process you will discover Truth, God’s amazing creation, His grace and His perfection.
God is good. And Science rocks!
